Regenerating Bellingen, one plant at a time

This is our newest site and probably the biggest project we’ve ever undertaken. This area, which adjoins the last remaining lowland subtropical rainforest patch in Bellingen, has been a heavily weed-infested impassable zone for many years but is now being transformed.

Clearing and planting was started in late 2009 in conjunction with the Bellingen Island Landcare group. In our second major planting in early 2011 900 plants went into the ground. Severe flooding has seen the loss of several large mature casuarina trees and metres of riverbank here so it’s really important to get this area stabilised.

In 2011 and 2012 we’ve worked with Bellingen Shire Council through Our Living Coast on weed control and regeneration on this difficult site.
