CEMETERY CREEK - SWIMMING POOL

An early BULC site, work started here in 1996. What was once a dirty swamp is now habitat for herons, kingfishers, ducks and many other bird species. Trials for control of Elephant Ear are now taking place.

THE POINT

In 2001 work began at this popular swimming hole in North Bellingen. The area, originally covered with invasive castor plants is now an established bushland area, although Madeira Vine continues to be a problem.

WESTERN END OF BELLINGEN ISLAND

This is our newest site and probably the biggest project we've ever undertaken. This area, which adjoins the last remaining lowland subtropical rainforest patch in Bellingen, has been a heavily weed-infested impassable zone for many years but is now being transformed. Clearing and planting was started in late 2009 in conjunction with the Bellingen Island Landcare group. In our second major planting in early 2011 900 plants went into the ground. Severe flooding has seen the loss of several large mature casuarina trees and metres of riverbank here so it's really important to get this area stabilised.

BOWLING CLUB + SCOUT HALL

This area behind the Scout Hall was extensively planted in 2003 and adjoins an earlier site adjacent to the Bowling Club.
